President Droupadi Murmu on Monday (October 12, 2026) effected some changes in Governors across six States, with Rajendra Arlekar to now serve as full-time Governor of Tamil Nadu, where he had been holding additional charge along with Keralam till now, and O.P. Mathur, who was serving as Governor of Sikkim to now serve as Governor of Keralam.
A Rashtrapati communique notified that Sudha Yadav has been appointed Governor of Karnataka, Braj Mohan Ram as Governor of Odisha, Dhal Singh Bisen as Governor of Uttarakhand and former BJP general secretary Dushyant Gautam as Governor of Sikkim.
Mr. Arlekar had held dual charge of both Tamil Nadu and Keralam for a while and had overseen the swearing-in of new governments in both these States after polls earlier this year. Dr. Sudha Yadav, now appointed Governor of Karnataka, replacing Thawarchand Gahlot, is a former MP from Mahendragarh in Haryana between 1999 and 2004, and had also served as a member of the BJP’s Parliamentary Board, its highest decision-making body, from August 2022 till the new team of national president Nitin Nabin took charge.
Dr. Brij Mohan Ram, now appointed Governor of Odisha, had been a Lok Sabha member between 1996-2004 representing Palamau in Jharkhand.
Poll-going Uttarakhand will also get a new Governor with Dhal Singh Bisen, former MP from Madhya Pradesh and having served as a Minister in the State government in the past. He has replaced Lt. General (retired) Gurmeet Singh, whose five-year tenure, one of the longest held in the State, came to an end in September.
Mr. Gautam, former Rajya Sabha member and having served as BJP general secretary under the presidentship of Union Minister J.P. Nadda, has been appointed Governor of Sikkim.
A communique from Rashtrapati Bhavan said the term of the Governors would take effect from the date of taking charge, which had not been specified.
