11 arrested for kidnapping two techies in Bengaluru; one techie accused of rape

The incident is tied to a rape accusation against two techies; police rescued victims within six hours.

Updated - October 29, 2026 02:32 pm IST - Bengaluru

Police in Bengaluru arrested 11 persons for allegedly kidnapping two 23-year-old software engineers and demanding ransom from the father of one of the victims.

The police rescued the victims within six hours of registering the case.

The kidnapping allegedly stemmed from a dispute involving one of the techies, who was accused of raping a woman friend of one of the techies, police sources said.

According to the police, B. Ramana, a native of Madanapalle in Andhra Pradesh, filed a complaint on October 28, stating that his son B. Mahendra, 23, and his friend Tarun, 23, a native of Kadapa district in Andhra Pradesh, had been kidnapped between 2.50 a.m. and 6 a.m. that day. The two were staying within the Marathahalli Police Station limits.

During the investigation, police examined CCTV camera footage and used technical evidence to identify and apprehend 11 suspects, including a 21-year-old woman. During interrogation, the accused allegedly admitted to conspiring to kidnap the two techies for money.

Police investigations revealed that the kidnapping was allegedly motivated by a personal dispute.

Mahendra was accused of raping a woman friend of Tarun on October 24.

The woman’s associates allegedly decided to teach the two techies a lesson. They kidnapped the duo, planning to demand ransom from Mahendra’s father.

The police subsequently questioned the woman and recorded her statement.

Based on her complaint, a separate rape case was registered against Mahendra and Tarun at the Marathahalli Police Station.

The arrested persons have been identified as Galeti Raj Kumar alias Raj, 24; a 21-year-old woman; Marripati Manjunath alias Manju, 23; Chinigepalli Lokanath, 22; Bandlapalli Suhail, 22; Gangareddygari Narendra Reddy, 22; Shiva Subramanyam, 24; Saleem Pasha, 30; Nayeem Pasha, 31; Shabaz, 26; and Gali Ramesh, 20.

The accused were produced in a court and were taken into police custody for further investigation.
