IKEA India, the Indian arm of the Swedish furniture and home furnishing retailer, is set to open its second store in Bengaluru on November 5 at Purva Zentech on Kanakapura Main Road. The conglomerate’s second store in the city, targeting potential customers from south Bengaluru and neighbouring areas, comes around four years after it opened its first store in the city, at Nagasandra, in 2022.

Spanning over 80,000 sq. ft. (7,783 sq. m.), the store is located near Konanakunte Cross Namma Metro station.

The store offers more than 5,200 products for customers to explore, with over 3,000 available for immediate takeaway. The complete IKEA range of over 7,000 products can be ordered in-store or through the IKEA website, app, and Shop by Phone service. Customers can also take a break from shopping and enjoy Swedish favourites and local treats at the 100-seater IKEA Restaurant.

IKEA began its journey in Bengaluru with e-commerce in 2021. According to the company, IKEA reaches over 300 million visitors across India through its online and offline channels, and has a community of more than 3 million IKEA Family members.

“Bengaluru holds a special place in our India journey. Over the last five years, we have been welcomed into thousands of homes and have had the opportunity to learn from customers about how they live, what they value, and how their needs are evolving. These insights have been instrumental in designing our new south Bengaluru store. Opening our second store in the city is a proud milestone and reflects our commitment to being more accessible and convenient,” said Patrik Antoni, CEO, IKEA India.

At present, IKEA has stores in seven cities in India — Hyderabad, Navi Mumbai, Worli in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi, and Pune.

In September, Mr. Antoni had met Karnataka’s Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to discuss new stores, local sourcing, and developing a wider vendor base in the State.

He invited Mr. Shivakumar to inaugurate IKEA’s upcoming second at Konanakunte Cross. The Swedish retailer is expanding its physical footprint in India while simultaneously ramping up its online reach. IKEA is broadening its presence beyond its traditional large-format stores. The company recently expanded its presence in Delhi-NCR with a new 30,000 square feet store, while it has also been relying on smaller formats and e-commerce to reach more customers.

One idea, multiple formats

On April 30, 2025, IKEA unveiled its first ‘Plan and Order Point’ (PaOP) in India at the Essensai 067 Experience Centre on Whitefield-Hoskote Road in Bengaluru. The 740 square metre space is nowhere comparable in size to the flagship store at Nagasandra, but serves the retailer’s aim to expand — both in format as well as geographically — to serve bustling east Bengaluru.

The new format, according to IKEA, serves as a dedicated customer meeting point, bringing expert home design knowledge closer to customers with personalised consultations, flexible planning support, and seamless installation services.

Pooja Grover, Country Expansion Manager, IKEA India, said, “Bengaluru, by 2030, is expected to have a home furnishing potential of about ₹216 billion. It’s a huge growth market, along with Delhi. And it’s one of our priority markets, so we are exploring to have quite a few of stores in various formats here. Why east of Bengaluru? It’s the IT hub, and because of that, you have a lot of young professionals here who are well-travelled, diverse, and from all over the country. If you do a mapping of the residential hotspots, you can see there’s huge amounts of residential catchments being added in the east along Hosakote and Sarjapur and these areas.”
