Leopard spotted in Nadaprabhu Kempe Gowda Layout of West Bengaluru

Leopard sighting in Nadaprabhu Kempe Gowda Layout near Sulikere prompts safety alerts and calls for proactive wildlife monitoring and public vigilance.

Updated - October 30, 2026 07:51 pm IST - Bengaluru

Panic gripped Nadaprabhu Kempe Gowda Layout (NPKL) after a leopard, believed to be a juvenile, was spotted near a residential block close to Sulikere in West Bengaluru.

The incident came to light after a purported video of the leopard crossing a road surfaced on social media. The video was reportedly filmed at night by an individual driving a goods vehicle.

Madhusudhan V., a resident of NPKL, told The Hindu that he spotted the leopard earlier and also shared pictures of pugmarks.

“It is not unusual to spot a big cat here, as the Sulikere forest is nearby. A few of us had spotted it earlier, but we did not want to create panic,” he said, adding that residents would have to be cautious at night.

A.S. Suryakiran of the NPKL Open Forum said that several layouts of the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) on the outskirts of Bengaluru were located close to forest areas.

“The BDA, in coordination with the Forest Department, should take proactive measures, including wildlife monitoring, scientific assessment of movement corridors, public alerts, emergency response mechanisms and appropriate safety measures in vulnerable areas,” he said.
